Navy not influenced by foreign warnings: Sayyari

TEHRAN, May. 03 (MNA) – The Commander of Iran’s Army Naval Forces said the reinforcement theory of Iran’s naval power is planned by Iran’s Leader and navy forces will not consider any foreign alerts in this regard.

Attending the National Persian Gulf Day Conference in Razi University of Kermanshah, Commander Habibollah Sayyari stressed the necessity of strengthening Iran naval forces under the command of Ayatollah Khamenei and asserted that in realizing this goal naval forces will not succumb to any foreign warning.

He announced that Iran navy forces currently were covering an area 1.3 times bigger than the country's size and said naval defense is a matter of concern and importance in today world and progressing on the sea means progressing in defense arena.

Describing Iran as a marine country, Sayyari noted that 90% of country’s trade is carried out by sea due to economic benefits of naval trade.

Emphasizing on marine-oriented development as an objective for naval forces, the commander reaffirmed Navy's will to defend Persian Gulf and maintain its security; "Iranian naval forces have to actively take action in Oman Sea and operate on the direction of saving national interests."

Touching upon the vitality of Caspian Sea, Sayyari also confirmed “Iran owns 20% of Caspian Sea, which is of high importance due to its oil and gas resources and capabilities of connecting Iran with neighbor countries.”
